The time to call up Domonic Brown is RIGHT NOW.
Posted by at 2:49 pm ET 178 Comments

Dear Ruben,

By and large I am happy with the decisions you have made. Trading Cliff Lee, as you’ve said, seemed like the only way the acquisition of Harry Leroy Halladay III was possible. A perfect game is all the proof the detractors need, to say nothing of the consistency we expected and he’s delivered. Placido Polanco was a shrewd move, and he’s certainly proven the Chone Figgins camp wrong. Jose Contreras for $1.5M? Brilliant.

But look at this team right now. The monthlong funk is marching into the Interleague portion of the season which the Phillies always dread. Things seem really tense, Charlie seems uncharacteristically troubled, and the team is mired in second place with only the occasional sign of life. Something has to give, and that something is probably Greg Dobbs. But the point is this:

Domonic Brown deserves to be on the Philadelphia Phillies right now. I don’t want to hear a thing about his service time and team management’s contractual policies. In the face of this slump, that is nonsense. Call up Domonic Brown, and now.

Look around the National League — it is a rookie feeding frenzy. Right here in our own National League East, Jason Heyward has become a contributing insta-star in Atlanta. In the past week alone in New York, Ike Davis hit a walk-off homerun, and Jonathon Niese pitched a complete game, one hit shutout. The Marlins? Maybe you caught that 6’5″ fella in rightfield the last few days, the guy who had three hits in his MLB debut, right here in South Philly. What’s that other team in the division? The Expos? I believe I heard something about an impressive rookie in Washington.

Jason Heyward will not be of legal drinking age until August 9th, yet he has become a star in his hometown. If memory serves, he greeted his first chance against his division rival Phillies with a two-out, ninth inning homerun to tie the game.

Ike Davis is 23 years old. I thought the Mets were foolish to not re-sign Carlos Delgado, but after Tuesday, it’s going to be hard to ignore this guy. Jonathan Niese is also 23, and he’s already solidified himself in a five-man rotation in Queens.

Mike Stanton is 20 years old. He had more homeruns (21) than his age already this season when the Marlins called him up this week.

Stephen Strasburg? He’ll be 22 on July 20th. He’s going to be making plenty of visits to Citizens Bank Park — starting in August. And he’s also important enough that the Phillies’ scheduled national broadcast on Sunday against the Red Sox has been bumped; TBS deems Strasburg’s start in the otherwise highly sought after Nationals-Indians ticket takes favor over a matchup featuring two of the last three World Series champions.

And for what it’s worth, Mike Leake is 5-0 with a 2.68 ERA in Cincinnati. He’s 22. If it wasn’t for Ubaldo Jimenez, Cardinals rookie Jaime Garcia would be leading the National League with his 1.47 ERA. He’s 23.

There is a youth movement assailing baseball’s gentry. With the team struggling so mightily, especially from lefthanders off the bench (Dobbs? Schneider? ugh), there is no reason whatsoever the Phillies should not get in on the action.

Domonic Brown will be 23 in September. Raul Ibañez is 38 and has $23M left on his contract. There have been more than a few recent reminders that Jayson Werth is a free agent to be. They could both use a couple days off — and maybe a little fire under their asses. Chase Utley and Ryan Howard were stuck behind Placido Polanco and Jim Thome, and I think we can agree they’ve proven themselves worthy of replacing their predecessors. But they also each got a late start.

Why not let Domonic Brown do his thing now? He was the one blue chip you would not part with. He’s already older than Heyward, Stanton and Strasburg. Let him prove you right.

This team needs an injection, something to rally and get excited around. The fans are getting restless, too. And you know as well as I do that Reading is not where Domonic Brown belongs. Nor Allentown.

Every single other team in the division has a star rookie in the making. Why can’t us? The season is practically already sold out — give the fans something else to look forward to, a little positive boost in this streak of ugliness. Think of the jersey and t-shirt sales. Think of the left handed bat off the bench not named Dobbs and Schneider. Think of the run production. And the excitement. And the buzz.

Come on, Rube. The time is now. Call up Domonic Brown.

  • TonyIsDynamic

    Hear that?

That’s the sound of absolutely NO ONE objecting to this. Except for some people talking about “SOOPER TOO” status or something. Those people should be beaten on the head with something sharp and rusty.

  • http://www.goldenphila.com maria

    Look at that pretty picture…

Dear Ruben, get Greg Dobbs off of this team yesterday.

  • TonyIsDynamic

But seriously folks, interleague play is upon us. We called up Mayberry last year didn’t we?

Call up Demonic Brown and get it the fuck over with.

  • TonyIsDynamic

Also, adding to the top post:

Carlos Santana has been called up to makes his Indians debut tonight. There’s also Buster Posey, who’s had a multi-hit game in ALL of his games since being called up…

  • http://housethatglanvillebuilt.blogspot.com Reverend Paul Revere

    Amen, bee love

  • redbeard

    preachin to the choir

  • zfg

The only they should call him up is if they give him Ibanez’s job. Bringing him off the bench and limiting his at bats would hurt his development, and would be an pretty inexcusable move, IMO. If you’re sure he’s ready to be productive at the major league level, then ditching Ibanez and eating the rest of his contract wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world, but he shouldn’t be called up as panic reaction.

  • Phan Stuck in nyc

Will Mr. Brown be able to play for THE WHOLE TEAM? … “maybe a little fire under [Werth's and Raul's] asses” is not the problem since they aren’t the only ones not hitting. There are a LOT of men not hitting on this team. And Werth’s & Ibanez’ issues are different. Raul is older. Werth is in a pressure tank. And I don’t think that Werth not feeling pressured is the problem. He might be feeling maybe too much pressure & he isn’t handling it well.

I could be wrong but my memory of it is that both Davis’ and Stanton’s numbers were better than Brown’s.

  • loctastic

I agree except please wait until Monday, cuz I just got R-Phils tix for Sunday, and it wasn’t just to see Happ pitch. thanks.

  • Aadam Aziz Ansari

Okay, so cut Ibanez and bring Brown up. What happens when Werth walks next year? And he will, don’t pretend the Phillies will all of sudden come up with an extra $15mm for three-four years they didn’t know they had before, especially now that we’re stuck with the $25mm man until the end of time.

  • Watrick

I’d say bring him up and tell him it’s for Inter-League play. If he impresses enough, let him stay.

  • Watrick

Oh, and that’s to play DH, since no one on the team knows how to hit outside of Ibanez and Big Head right now.

  • Lynniemac

loctastic: I have R-Phils tix for Monday, so can we make it Tuesday?

  • loctastic

Lynniemac – Tuesday it is, but NO LATER, this is being put off LONG ENOUGH

  • TC

Bring him up and let him play roamer. Thats E-10 on LA’s scorecard.

  • Robin Quivers

We need a constitutional amendment to ban prospects from being exposed before they are ready. Once this 20th round pick can prove that he can AAA pitching, then we should consider bringing him up.

  • Phan Stuck in nyc

Robin Quivers: Exactly. Now this makes sense.

  • Watrick

I’d love to see a guy AAA pitching, because I’m really interested to know what AAAing is.

  • Uncle Charlie’s hands

Time for a letter from Mike Schmidt.

  • Esteban Yan

Yes Quivers, as soon as DBrown can hit me, then he can be brought up.

  • JB

agreed, agreed, agreed. Bring him up.

  • http://twitter.com/j_tee_r Jdashdog

So you’re saying Ross Gload is NOT the answer?

  • Phan Stuck in nyc

So Lynnie & loctastic – you need to report back to us about whether or not you think Brown will save Mankind when you see him Mon & Tues.

  • loctastic

sure thing. I got some eagle eyes, and I even have tix in RF. I’ll check out his swing, how he plays the field, test his midichlorian levels, and report back!

though I already know the answer. he IS the saviour.

  • Phan Stuck in nyc

I still don’t think he should replace Werth.

  • Lynniemac

Stuck Phan: I don’t know about saving mankind, but I do know from last year that he can deposit a ball onto Rt. 61 (which is to say, a very, very, VERY long way from home plate).

  • TonyIsDynamic

Only thing about Brown that bugs me is his left-handedness.

Also I wish we start winning again so we stop fighting.

  • Morandini Turned 3

Didn’t Strasburg jump from AA to the Nats? I wonder if Dom had any AB’s against him?

Yep, found it. 0-2 with a ground out and a strike out.

OK, OK I know its a miniscule sample size, but maybe we should at least let the guy face some AAA pitching before we toss him to the wolves? We want him to be a force on this team for a long, long time.

  • Phan Stuck in nyc

Lynnie: Yep he’s lighting them up at that level. But if I remember I think Davis’ & Stanton’s stats were somewhat better. Also their teams were far worse off than the Phillies were & are – no matter how bad we feel right now. Truth is prob 50% of here have been wanting Brown to be called up since they found out about him.

Tony: I hear ya. And yeah, sad all the way around.

Morandini: I agree he should prob spend more time before he’s called.

  • Nikco Riesgo

I think he’s ready. He’s hit a homer in every game that I’ve worked as Screwball this season. Except the Strasburg game. But then again Strasburg was basically perfect for 6 innings.

  • Robin Quivers

We need a constitutional amendment banning the over-hyping of Ike Davis. He’s Dan Murphy with a little bit more pop.

  • John K

what a stupid fucking reaction that would be

  • http://twitter.com/waverider15 Bridge to Lidge

Don’t call him up until he spells his name right! Kidding. They need to bring him and Tagg Bozied up to help the bench and fill in on some days. I say next year one of them will be a starting OF.

  • http://twitter.com/waverider15 Bridge to Lidge

Also, Domonick Brown and Domenick Lombardozzi should hang out and talk about their first names.

  • Luuuuuuuke

I couldn’t agree more with this, and interleague play is the perfect time to get Brown at bats without taking swings away from Ibanez, Werth, and Victorino. Also, Greg Dobbs is a waste of everybody’s time, he looks overmatched in half of his at bats and I’m fed up with him, its a shame.

  • TonyIsDynamic

Well ready or not, here we go.

  • TonyIsDynamic

    Ballgame.

Damn. I guess we gotta try to take on Mr. Almost No-Hitter tomorrow to break this slide?

  • TonyIsDynamic

    Is it tomorrow yet?

  • CBPbitches

wow….i love torturing myself watching the phillies play the redsoxs…. i’m in a deep state of depression over this game and its not even the 2nd inning.

  • TonyIsDynamic

    IS. IT. TOMORROW. YET?

  • Jess

Not that it matters at this point, but is GameDay really off, or is Jamie getting a completely different strike zone than Lackey did?

  • TonyIsDynamic

You now realize that in one inning, the Red Sox have scored more runs in one inning than the entire Phillies team in the last MONTH. With the exception of two games.

  • Minty Fresh

Well, this is a fucking train wreck.

  • TonyIsDynamic

RELAX GUYS! IT’S ONLY MID MAY!

WE’RE GONNA FLIP THAT MAGICAL RAINBOW UNICORN SWITCH CUZ WE’RE THE PHILADELPHIA PHILLIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIES

  • Minty Fresh

    I don’t even know what to say…

  • Watrick

That actually looked like BP. Moyer’r ERA might be the same as his age.

  • TonyIsDynamic

Yeah guys, this isn’t a slump anymore. This is reality.

Teams are giving us mercy by NOT waving runners home, and runners not even BOTHERING running into double plays.

  • epiphany1

This is brutal. Oh well off to watch the FIFA concert celebration.

  • Jon Weeks Booth

Well, my night just opened up. Who’s up for fajitas?

  • Andrea

    What an embarrassment.

  • Watrick

Let’s hope this is the low point.

  • TonyIsDynamic

    No.

    No.

The lowpoint was getting shutout by the shitty Tim Wakefield with our ACE on the mound. This is no lowpoint.

  • Dubee Dubee Du

Hey guys I just turned the game on and saw the score. What happened? Did Boston kick 3 Field Goals or did they miss an extra point?

  • TonyIsDynamic

Jamie Moyer couldn’t play today so we started P. Machine.

  • Jess

Jamie knew it was all over once he gave up the first run. So he decided to go easy on himself and just throw BP.

  • TonyIsDynamic

    “Fat Joe Blanton says:
    June 11, 2010 at 12:14 pm
Tony I’ll bet you my BLT that last night was not part of the slump and was just a result of JJ being really good. We’ll take 2/3 from Boston.”

  • TonyIsDynamic

I perfect my BLT without tomato.

So it’s a BL sandwich, thanks FJB.

  • CBPbitches

    painful is an understatement

  • TonyIsDynamic

    Calling a 20-spot.

  • CBPbitches

where the hell is rollins? this team needs some major boo-ing from us fans….enough of the slump niceness.

  • Dubee Dubee Du

Watching a replay of game 6 of the Blackhawks-Flyers would be less painful than this.

  • TonyIsDynamic

    @Dubee Dubee Dubee

At least you’d see the Flyers score.

Phillies confirmed for 8th shutout of the year.

  • TonyIsDynamic

    ALRIGHT DAVID! 12 SOX!

Fuck it. This team doesn’t deserve to win.

  • Jess

    Can we forfeit? Seriously?

  • TonyIsDynamic

You NOW realize that David Ortiz has more runs BATTED IN…than the Phillies in 23 of their games, with the exception of THREE of them.

  • Dubee Dubee Du

They have to play 5 innings for the mercy rule to kick in right?

  • TonyIsDynamic

This is going to be the most awesome episode of “Ricky Bo is pissed off and randomly picks on Gregg Murphy or Marshall Harris for 30 minutes” EVER.

    Seriously can’t wait. <3

  • http://www.weemswear.com Heese

“By and large I am happy with the decisions you have made.” -> Raul Ibañez is 38 and has $23M left on his contract.

    oops

  • joe

Calling up Brown to be on the bench would be the biggest, stupid panic move.

  • TonyIsDynamic

Fuck off Ibanez. I wanted the shutout for the Sawx.

  • Jess

I like how Werth suddenly remember how to play baseball.

  • http://www.goldenphila.com maria

I like that Jayson Werth is playing well after being down 12 runs.

  • TonyIsDynamic

    DOBBS AT FIRST! XD

This is the equivalent of a basketball team putting in the benchwarmers in a 40 point game

  • TonyIsDynamic

UTLEY’S GONE TOO. I LOVE IT

  • Uncle Charlie’s hands

I fucking swear. They should call the Phillies the Philadelphia Volcanoes. Dormant then it explodes. I got nothing else tonight

  • TonyIsDynamic

Bill Hall’s got the wrong red and grey uniform on.

  • http://www.goldenphila.com maria

Charlie’s not fucking around. This shit is embarrassing. He should put Cole Hamels in the outfield.

  • Uncle Charlie’s hands

Can they put Tyler Walker as the catcher and Jon Lieber as the 3rd baseman?

  • Jess

Honestly, at this point I wouldn’t mind Charlie benching all of the starters for the next two games. Not like the result is going to be any different.

  • http://mauleofamerica.com beelove

@ Heese – HAHAHA. i wondered if someone would call me out on that.

but you guys saying calling up brown is a stupid, panic move – really? you’re ok with things the way they are? i’m not advocating calling dude up to ride the pine – i expect him to play. raul isn’t getting it done, and though i see werth eventually turning it around, he clearly could use some days off.

essentially what you’re saying is that the #1 prospect in the system is less deserving of MLB time than guys who are as young or younger than him – and actively contributing – on EVERY OTHER TEAM IN THE DIVISION.

this slump fucking sucks and right now, the first game of these awful interleague series, we’ve given up 12 goddamn runs by halftime. the rainbow unicorns aren’t working – it’s time for something drastic. i say go all in and let the stud be a stud. shake it up, see what happens. it’s not gonna be any worse than what’s going on now.

  • Dubee Dubee Du

    Jason Werth against Boston= 4 games- 13AB- 6Hits- 3Dbls- 1HR

    Jason Werth between the Boston series= 13 games- 44AB- 4Hits- 1Dbl-

Just about gauranteeing no team but Boston will give him any kind of offer.

  • Dubee Dubee Du

  • Uncle Charlie’s hands

Who wants to watch Forrest Gump with Brian Schneider?

  • Jupiter’s Rings

I Want to Go to the Batting Cages with the Phillies.

  • Dubee Dubee Du

The last thing Brown needs is to come to the big leagues and get infected with this shit fuck play that is prevalent on the team now.

  • Tyler

I’m all for Brown coming up, but he can’t be relegated to a bench role. I think he needs starter AB’s if he wants to continue to grow and succeed.

  • http://hollywoodjeff.blogspot.com RicoBrogna

This sucks. it hurts to watch how lethargic this team is. ugh. i’m gonna watch paint dry.

  • Jupiter’s Rings

    Boof Bonser. Boof.

    Boof?

  • Uncle Charlie’s hands

at least boof bonser can hit better than the phillies

  • epiphany1

They are now in 3rd place behing the Braves and Mets. This shit is horrible. Is the rest of the team secretly protesing Howard’s contract?

  • mr_cee

If Cholly doesn’t rip some new assholes after this disgusting display, I may begin to dislike him as much as I do the rest of this poor excuse for a baseball team.

  • Uncle Charlie’s hands

  • http://www.goldenphila.com maria

The Phils have come full circle. The last time the team was really playing well was when they beat the Pirates 12-2 and today’s game was about as bad as can be. They lose 12-2.

I also want to say how much I fucking hate the new Super Pretzel commercial with Tom McCarthy’s homerun call.

  • WerthBeard

I’d bring Dom-Brown up for interleague play and send dobbs down to triple or double A.

  • Fat Joe Blanton

You know things are really bad when Phylan isn’t even commenting.

  • Tyler

Bringing him up for Interleague is perfect. Start him in Left and DH Ibanez. It’s the obvious smart decision.

  • TonyIsDynamic

    Relax guys, it’s only middle-to-end-of-June!

    GO FLYERS

  • Freid

I’m just glad Eric doesn’t have to see this

  • TonyIsDynamic

    ps 100

  • Hermanater

Start Brown in left, Gload to DH. Bench Ibanez. Werth needs to pull things out of the orafice on his backside. Utley must have broken ten mirrors while walking under a ladder. This has been seriously painful.

  • BigMiles

Seems like the minority opinion on here but I disagree with beelove….I agree with joe that its a panic move to bring him up. I do agree that Dobbs should be sent down but I would bring up Mayberry because he is more suited for a bench role. Brown is not Heyward, and who says that bringing up Stanton was a good idea for the fish? That remains to be seen.

And just because teams like the Mets and Nats are bringing up their young guys doesn’t mean that we have to do that. They were not built to win a championship this year. Our team is. That means that you don’t overreact a bring up a prospect to play a limited role. What if you bring him up and Werth and Ibanez start swinging the bat really well? What do you do then? Just send him right back to the minors?

  • Brian

Stick a fork in this season….can anyone see this pitching rotation even giving the Phillies a .500 record? Christ.

  • BigMiles

Um…Brian, even after yesterday’s debacle the Phils have a top 10 ERA. The pitching staff has probably been better than advertised with the exception of Blanton.

  • http://www.goldenphila.com maria

The pitching has not been the problem, it’s actually been the least to blame. The offense, the bench, and at times the defense is what’s failed this team.
It will get better, you just gotta have faith in this team. It’s basically the same group of guys that have won 3 straight division titles, 2 National titles, 2 World Series berths, and 1 championship. I hate people saying the season’s over. I’ll see you again in October. This team is too good to continue playing this way.

  • mr_cee

I hope you’re right Maria. This current team has gone into a funk on more than one occasion, but this has been damn near a month. I agree the pitching isn’t a problem. Even last night’s game. The umpire wasn’t giving Jamie any leeway whatsoever. So, when you can’t get anything inside or outside, you gotta come in over the plate. How soon we forget Jamie’s last 2 or 3 outings. It’s been this dismal offense that is really hurting this team. And as Maria points out the defense has looked fairly shaky at times.

Like I said earlier, I know it’s not his style but, Charlie’s got to give these boys some tough love and he better do it soon. Sitting a bunch of them down last night only saved them more embarrassment. Except for Jayson and Chooch, they still looked bad in the later innings.

What really makes it like picking at a scab is listening to T-Mac and Wheels. I’ve pretty much worn out the mute button on my remote.

So, what’s the answer? Boycott a game? That’ll never happen, but it might wake some people up. Boo them heartily when they screw up? So what, they still get their mega-millions regardless. It’s just getting painful to watch, and like everyone else I wish it would all go away.

  • http://mauleofamerica.com beelove

big ups to david murphy for digging a little deeper and taking this story the next step further for the daily news. he has the phillies’ official opinion – which doesn’t sound like much of one at all to me – on calling up domonic brown in today’s paper and online HERE.

it doesn’t bode well for those of us who’d like to see a little edge from the management (nor for domonic brown himself), but it vindicates those of you who are ok to rest on your laurels and wait for things to work themselves out.

i just really think it’s a drag that DB has to wait and wait in the minors when 1, younger guys are already producing in the division, 2, the phillies have been down this road before (howard, utley), and 3, the team needs a shakeup of SOME kind. i have no desire to know if he can hit AAA pitching – i want to see him try MLB pitching.

  • http://www.thefightins.com/ Tug Haines

2008 saw an offensive funk of nearly 2 months, not to mention a slow start in April.

  • ajcorp

Bring Dom up and give him a fightin chance! This oughta wake the rest of them up.

Get well J-Roll, and for God’s sake, COME BACK SOON!! I can’t stand any more of Castro and Valdez!

I am ready to punch a wall right now.

  • HereWeGoAgain

    Well isn’t that special.

  • TonyIsDynamic

All this “Fuck Dobbs” shit? Nonononononono. Keep Dobbs. He’s harmless.

It’s BLANTON’S fat ass you need to DFA.

  • Uncle Charlie’s hands

look, if the phillies are that awful in the next few months, i hope they sell players like ibanez, werth, blanton, contreras, and get some goodies back. GO DOMONIC BROWN!!!!!!

  • TonyIsDynamic

Who wants to play a Daniel Nava drinking game with me?

  • Uncle Charlie’s hands

i just love the rebuilding process. young guys that commit 6 errors per game, but they are sure fun to watch.

  • Uncle Charlie’s hands

    sure tony.

  • TonyIsDynamic

This team needs a name change.

From the “Philadelphia Phillies” to the “Philadelphia Team Paid To Lose To The Harlem Globetrotters”

  • Uncle Charlie’s hands
  • TonyIsDynamic

I hope Nava nails ANOTHER grand slam.

I want this piece of shit Phillies team in the record books.

  • TonyIsDynamic

    This is a fucking joke.

  • TonyIsDynamic

    Designate

  • TonyIsDynamic

    Joe

  • TonyIsDynamic

    Blanton

  • J

The fans of this city deserve a public apology from the Phillies. This is absolutely pathetic.

  • TonyIsDynamic

The irony of a poster named “Fat Joe Blanton” telling me to shut up and that the Phillies would take 2 of 3 in this series is hilarious.

    Deliciously hilarious. Yum.

  • TonyIsDynamic

    Joe Blanton’s ERA: 7.24

Cliff Lee’s too fucking obvious, so we’ll go with BRETT MYERS here. For a shittier team.

    3.18.

  • TonyIsDynamic

    EVERYBODY HITS! WOO-HOO!

  • TonyIsDynamic

Sorry guys, I just spent the past 20 minutes eating out another man’s ass.

Did “Daniel Nava” do something today? Did they interview his pet hamster yet?

  • CBPbitches

yeah….that in house box score is somethin to write home about, right?

  • Fat Joe Blanton

You don’t shut up Tony, blah blah blah we suck! the sky is falling! It gets old quick, go watch the world cup or something.

  • TonyIsDynamic

No thanks, I’ll watch the Phillies since I’m not giving up on this team.

“You don’t shut up Tony, blah blah blah we suck! the sky is falling!”

Can you bother to help me up? The sky fell on me and I think I threw my back out. It fucking hurts.

  • Adamr14

    this is pathetic..

    im gonna go smoke crack

  • Burt Lavallo, friend to all

“Trading Cliff Lee, as you’ve said, seemed like the only way the acquisition of Harry Leroy Halladay III was possible. A perfect game is all the proof the detractors need.”

i like the article overall, but that’s just a crazy thing to say. the perfect game was very nice, but it means next to nothing in assessing the wisdom of the trade(s). the detractors never claimed halladay wasn’t an astonishingly terrific pitcher, they said (among other things) that someone as good as lee should have yielded more than a handful of questionable prospects.

  • Nick

I’m just glad my 2nd favorite team is competing so I don’t care that the Phils suck…

    GO DIAMONDBACKS

  • Fat Joe Blanton

Sarge said the Phillies are gonna start bumpin on people soon, not sure what that means but thats all I need to hear.

  • TonyIsDynamic

The Phillies have faced no starters in this game. Just a bunch of relievers.

Both runs? Scored in the first inning by BRIAN FUCKING SCHNEIDER.

  • Phils are vomitrocious and Tony is lame

God, I wish they would just call this game before the Red Sox add a few more runs. Glad to see that closed door meeting went so well. Phils in 4th in the East by months’ end, 7 games back and only a half game over the Nationals.

  • TonyIsDynamic

BEST NAME I’VE SEEN ON A BLOG SINCE ‘CHARLIE VILLANUEVA’S HAIRLESS SCROTUM’

  • http://www.twitter.com/swift5648 Swift

I gotta go with what TonyIsDynamic has been preaching.

  • Uncle Charlie’s hands

Who wants tixs for the Cleveland series?

  • TonyIsDynamic

Say whatever you want about the Phillies announcers.

You know, say whatever you want about JOE. FUCKING. BUCK. For my money, I’ve never actually DEVELOPED A MIGRAINE listening to a commentator before.

Today…Tim McCarver has me rubbing my aching temples.

  • TonyIsDynamic

And with that hit, Chase Utley bumps his average up to .259.

    ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!

  • Fat Joe Blanton

Radio broadcast, won’t watch because I can’t stand that cunt Joe Buck

  • Fat Joe Blanton

greg dobbs gets a hit! greg dobbs gets a hit!

  • Morandini Turned 3

    Is it over yet?

  • http://www.twitter.com/swift5648 Swift

@Fat Joe Blanton, I thought his name was Glenn Dobbs? No… oh, I guess McCarver got that wrong earlier.

  • Fat Joe Blanton

no you’re right, Glen Dobbs and Roy Hallaway

  • Morandini Turned 3

well, I guess we now know who’ll be leaving the rotation when Happ is healthy.
    John Blanton.

  • http://www.twitter.com/swift5648 Swift

    @Morandini Turned 3, It is now… finally.

  • TonyIsDynamic

    Mercifully, it’s over.

OOH! OOH! MAYBE WE CAN LOSE BY 6 TOMORROW!

  • Phils are vomitrocious and Tony is lame

I hear ya Tony…this way we’ll only be outscored by 24 runs in a 3 game series!

  • Rob E

This is really beyond belief at this point. Nice job, Ruben. Since you’ve become GM, you’ve turned into an arrogant jerk, and, more importantly, haven’t improved the team at all. Lee could have been here for at least this year. Now, he’s likely going to the Yankees. So, if we do make it to the series , (which seems unthinkable right now), we’d have to face Sabathia, Lee, and Burnett, vs. Halladay, Hamels, and who knows after that…
Also, if we don’t have the worst bench in baseball, it’s got to be close… Gload 215, Dobbs, 140, etc
Are you kidding me? Call up Brown, absolutely nothing to lose….

  • BigMiles

Wait…Tony, you want to DFA a guy who has had an ERA in the low 4s since he came to Philly because he has some shitty starts coming off an injury? Cmon. Joe had a stretch last year where he gave up 5-6 runs a game and bounced back fine. If you want to send him to the bullpen to work on things when Happ gets back thats fine but you can’t afford to cut a starter like Blanton when you already have Moyer and Kendrick in your rotation. Enough with the overreaction…we suck really hard right now but if you just blow up the roster then we wont have the ability to come back out of the hole we have created for ourselves.

  • Fat Joe Blanton

I completely agree Miles, Blanton has to stop eating so many cheese steaks and his numbers will drop back down

  • Sophie

All I know is that this team needs something, and they need it NOW! I dont care if it’s a new hitter, a new coach, or strippers on a pole after every game. The Fightins need to get their ass in gear. I’m tired of watching them loose. I called it that we were gonna loose all the interleague games. So far, so good. This is beyond ridiculous now. I dont like knowing what it feels like to be a Cubs fan.

  • A-ROID

this team is a joke…a complete joke
