This afternoon in Clearwater, the Phillies announced some brand spanking new promotional items to handout to ticket holders for various games throughout the course of the 2010 season. I’m sure you’ve seen most of them, like the 2009 NL Champs Pennant (April 12), the 2009 Champs shirt (April 14), Shane’s foam finger (June 6), and that sweet ass Roy Halladay bobble (May 18). But now they’ve added more to their free shit arsenal, and I figured we might as well check ‘em out.
The highlight of the bunch is a game against the Braves on Tuesday, July 6th where children 14 & under get an official 30″ Louisville Slugger wood bat featuring Charlie Manuel’s name and signature, and PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES screen printed on the label.
I was under the impression that they stopped giving these away at games in fear of people getting beat to death with blunt wooden objects, but I guess they’re trying to counteract that by giving them to kids only. Either way, it’s BADASS:

Close-up:
So make sure to rent-a-kid for that game if you want a bat. At least school’s out.
After the jump, check out another giveaway. This one possibly being inspired by The Fightins…
No, it’s not a talking Shane Victorino doll that says “no questions asked” when you pull a string, but it’s close. On Father’s Day, June 20th, the Phillies are once again giving away their customary hat for dad, except this time it’s actually being promoted as a Sarge cap. Now I wonder if any particular site out there was a huge proponent in making Sarge’s hat the coolest fashion accessory in baseball? Perhaps… THE FIGHTINS?
Check it:

And here he is modeling the cap in the booth this afternoon:

With the signature inside the brim:

There’s also the Chase Utley action figure (July 25) and the Chooch bobble (August 24), although pictures of those have yet to be released. But rest assured, as soon as they are, we’ll have ‘em for you.

i pointed this out to the esteemed meech.one on twitter, but thank god the bat day is not against the mets. it would NOT be pretty.
on second thought, what’s a world with a few thousand fewer mets fans?
Well, I know what my dad is getting for Father’s Day. Whether he wants it or not (I’m kinda hoping not).
What do you think T-Mac is googling in that last pic?
Chase Utley action figure? Step aside, GI Joe.
(Do kids still play with GI Joes? God, I’m old.)
well he’s googling something that is two words, with the second word about half the size of the first. i’m thinking a seven letter word and a four letter word.
looks like the second word might start with a p?
wheeler pics? is that possible? why would anyone look up pictures of chris wheeler? maybe for muffin purposes.
the give aways always look cool when they preview em, but suck ass when you get them and they have a huge turkey hill or peco stamp on them.
June 20th is sold out.
MOTHERFUCKER
sarge hat… I NEED IT.
goddamn kids, how about people 18 and up get a 38 inch bat with chollys signature, no kids allowed. dumb. the sarge hat aint too bad though. itll be interesting to see what sarge will say on air if gary jr. actually gets a bat against us. haha
i wonder if david wright participates in the gay pride parade yearly
ha max, yeah that sucks.
you gotta figure that when they’ve sold 3,000,000 tickets, have set a cap for season tickets and set the promotion for father’s day…..you ain’t buyin’ a ticket from the team’s website. stubhub that shit.
or, go to the game july 6, get a bat, go back in time through that hot tub and beat up a fan for their ticket. that’s my best advice.
where are the reports on Cliff Lee and how he’s suspended for the first 5 games of the year for throwing a fastball high and inside?
@MaxL: The Phillies sell tickets?
Sarge’s green Phillies polo is sharp.
Plan B got absolutely nothing in terms of giveaways. I guess I will just have to steal something while I’m at one of the games. I want that hot dog shooter.
@Mr. Bryan…I agree and I never really like anything the Phillies do in green but that is classy. I’m sure on me it would look terrible but Sarge is really making it work.
YO Griswold i saw david wright at the gay pride parade
Reports are that David Wright tested positive for cock last season
@Paul – here’s the video. The two pitches are ~15 seconds in. The first one is just way inside, the second one is right behind his head.

i will fight anyone 14 and under
maxL, they said 3 weeks ago that 73 of the 81 games were already sold out. after i fight 14 year olds, i will fight the fair weathered post-WFC fans.
Yea what the hell as much as I love sell outs, I don’t love me not attending them. I wanna stab people in the face who say “I went to 7486 games this year” and they only go because the Phillies are the new cool thing and they just get plastered which decreases their baseball knowledge from a little to nothing. Looks like stubhub is going to be my new best friend.
I agree with will and Pat. It’s really sad how so many meatheads and nonbaseball enthusiasts are flocking to CBP because it is the place to be. CBP is becoming a big bar with a field in the middle anymore. Don’t get me wrong, I like to drink and tailgate but I know how to carry myself. I dread dollar dog nights and have even traded them in because for some reason people feel the need to act like assholes because they have a hot dog for a dollar and 20 beers.
If you are having trouble getting home games just go to D.C. to catch a couple or go to Pittsburgh. I’m going to both places this year. The Pirates series is 4th of July weekend so I got fireworks night tickets…here you need to felate the entire front office to get tickets to a fireworks night.
Pat, I couldn’t agree more. I remember going to games at the Vet. Most of those people think it’s where you send you pet. You try to talk to someone about Jason Michaels and getting in fights with cops, they have to ask you who he is. I have friends that really know a lot more about baseball than me, and rosters and everything, and they make me feel dumb when I talk to them. Then, I go to a game, talk to another fan, and I feel like they’re the idiots. I don’t think I’m that smart with baseball, because I feel there’s people that know more than me, but some of the other fans at games now… I don’t want to discourage someone coming to the game and enjoying themselves, because I love it so much, I want people to join in. But, I don’t like the fact that I know once they start losing again, or if they do, these people won’t be there anymore, they’re just going to be spending more time in Ocean City or something during their summers.
Watrick…my friends and I talk about Wally Backman, Pat Combs, Toby Borland, Joe Boever (and his filthy palm ball) Bobby Munoz (and his never ending battle with finger problems) and Sil Campusano while we’re at the games and I know only the 3 of us know anything about these people in our section.
I hope everyone enjoys me!
Exactly. I admit, I don’t know about all of them, but I do know about a couple, or at least recognize all those names. I admit, when I started to become a teenager, I stopped watching baseball for two reasons-my dad liked and therefore, I hated it, and because there was the strike, I got into other things during that time. So, for me, there are a couple years there that I didn’t watch baseball nearly as close as I did when I was younger, or anywhere near as closely as I do now. All it took was a high school buddy dragging me to the home opener in 2000 against the Mets at night (imagine doing that now?!). I walked into the Vet, recognized the smell of hot dogs and spilled beer, walked up to the 600 level out in right field, and have been hooked again ever since. Know what the big draw was that night? The return of Mickey Morandini! That’s how bad the club was that year.
i agree with the feeling in the comments above. I love to have some beers, tailgate, smoke a cigar and enjoy the baseball game while maybe getting a little rowdy for a 6 4 3 twinbill. I dislike the fact that it’s trendy anymore. Posers make their way to CBP and ruin it for the good fans.
It’s almost confusing as well as slightly selfish. Good fans almost want a trophy for sticking with this team through the Tony Barron, Jeff Juden, Robert Person-is-our-ace years. Now that we were so loyal and the phillies have fulfilled our horniest fantasy of becoming world champs, new fans hop on the wagon and drag us down. I don’t know, im rambling like an idiot.. but we can be sure about one thing.. the broskies will fade away somewhere down the line.
What’s a shame about all of this is at most of the games I find myself hating some of the Phillies “fans” more than I hate fans of the visiting team that showed up.
@Joe D I agree with you. I am going to the second game of the season in DC because i am living there now. I am going out to a game in Pittsburgh too. I went to a game there last year and there were more Phillies fans there than Pirates fans. Plus the games are extremely cheap there and you can see the whole series there for the price of a game at CBP.
How great would it be if the Phillies just decided to build an additional 10,000 seats onto the stadium, that could be taken away if they start losing again? @ will.H, you were right on, that wasn’t rambling, that was preaching. Unfortunately, to the choir. After they won, I did have some people come up to me and congratulate me about the Phils winning, because they remembered me talking about them so much for the past number of years. They new I was a loyal fan, and while they enjoyed it, actually mentioned and took the time to realize that it probably was better for me than for them. If only I could have had those people fill out a petition to send into the Phillies as proof of my loyalty.
I am a little annoyed that the email addresses of people who purchased tickets in 2002 aren’t taken into account when doing the random drawings to see who can buy tickets for Opening Day. The Phillies are so good about so much, that’s really one of the few things I think they totally miss the boat with.
@ Meech, bet the house that TMac is googling, “corny home run nicknames.”
@Jdash….I always say that I hate 90% of Phillies fans and I really do. Most people at the games sicken me. They really do.
@Dushler….yeah the prices for Pirates tickets are insanely cheaper (mostly because they suck). For the July 3rd game I am right behind the plate in the infield box…$27 tickets. $27! My seats at CBP are $33 and they are in the OUTFIELD. PNC is probably my favorite park. The backdrop is awesome (although who doesn’t like that big white Phillies pole that blocks the skyline) , there are plenty of bars around the stadium and the Phillies fans that will be there are fans who give a shit and didn’t roll off some bus from Northeast Philly looking to fight people. I am really looking forward to my weekend out there.
@Watrick & will.H This exactly the type of thing I was getting at a few weeks ago in talking about the postseason ticket opportunities for season ticket holders this year. Why in the blue hell should some fraud who bought a ticket plan in the past year be able to go to as many playoff games as me when I’ve had the plan for 8 years? I hate every single cot damn person who went out and bought a ticket plan because it was the trendy thing to do. Suffer for 20 years as a fan watching Chris James, Wally Ritchie, Midre Cummings, and Freddie Tolliver. Then come back, look me in the eyes and tell me you’re still a true fan.
Put the newcomers within the last 2 years in a lottery for playoff tickets. Unfortunately, there really may be some true fans in that mix, but timing is everything and now they’re piss poor timing is fucking it up for me and a lot of others.
I’m also going to Pittsburgh this summer for a few games. Looking forward to that road trip.
Also looking to stay away from any establishment where Big Ben can assault….well anyone really.
Right? I dream of a day when the stadium will be full of me and a bunch of dad’s with little girls who throw back Werth’s foul balls. That would be the cutest baseball game ever! And you guys could come too maybe.
Midre Cummings…awesome name drop. And I too am pissed that in the past 3 years we have gone from 4 guaranteed playoff games to 2. It’s piss poor.
ozzie, the phillies don’t care and neither do their employees. The return emails i received were something the lines of–supply and demand, blah blah i dont understand their situation.
No, i understand your situation, i just dont like what you’re doing about it. Dump on your loyal fans who filled your stadium when you suck, and give the same playoff rights and privelages to the new brand of fan with a credit card freshly placed on file. They could care less about the long time season ticket holders.. as long as money is being paid they could care less who its from. Sure, ticket prices go up every year, concessions, parking, i guess its the nature of a successful team and im ok with all of that, but don’t promise X amount of fans that they get playoff tickets then slowly take them away due to their ‘exponential’ problem as they call it. Loyal customers first, make the new ones wait. Phillies used to favor the fan and now they’re becoming the money grubbing eagles.
I used an example along the lines of.. if i bought a truck 6 years ago and all of a sudden this well built, durable truck became popular in say, 2008. by 2010, Ford capped off production lets say at 500,000. Then big bad car company comes knocking on your door and says “hey listen, your truck is awfully popular and now we’re going to have to limit your parts, so we’re going to have to take 1 of your 4 tires for the other trucks that need it.” No, let me keep my tires because i purchased this under the impression id be able to keep my friggen tires, Mr. The more they take away our playoff tickets the more the D plan becomes useless. I can see regular season games anytime I want.. stubhub sellers panic and lower their prices at the last minute because they think they’re going to make bank on a regular season game between the Phils and Marlins. dump on the loyal customers, you’ll have a blue seats in 2015.
That’s what I’m talking about will!!!! Represent!
I’m not holding my breath for Chase’s action figure, but I’d like to take a peek at it.
There really should be a well-done article on all of this about the popularity of the team now given their recent success and the demand for tickets and how 85% of the people going to the park are complete assholes and 10% are suits who all of a sudden decide that yes they do want to sit in those diamond club seats.
I can’t wait for J.D. Drew battery day
@28. I was at a game when I was a kid when Tony Barron made one of the craziest catches in Vet history. Full layout in the RC gap I think, left part of his face on the turf.
TC, that’s my most notable Tony Barron memory. Shallow liner, full extension, even banged his face on the turf. I mean.. the vet turf of all places.. I’m delighted someone else has the same obscure memory.
Hey! Who said the Phillies don’t care about their long-time season ticket holders? There were those TWO WHOLE PEOPLE who got their tickets this year from the Phanatic, after all! DON’T YOU PEOPLE THINK THAT PROVES THEY CARE?!?!?!?!
Going to Phillies home games is old school… True fans now make the trips to DC, New York, and Pittsburgh on a regular basis to catch games in half empty stadiums that remind us of the Vet!
foam finger!
RFK will remain my favorite away stadium of all time.
haha lynnie, PR=big hearts!
everyone stop crying, we will be shitty again in 5-10 years and then you all can fit into the stadium.
or the world will end in two years…. one of the 2
I loved RFK. The first time we went, we got tickets in the middle section, between the upper and lower levels. There were some really funny DC fans there that first kind of wanted to fight us, and then realized their team sucked, and that Soriano shouldn’t have been hitting lead off all year. They called him “Magellan”, because he would “circumnavigate the outfield, searching for the ball.” The other great thing about the seats-a freaking pipe right in the way! I mean, right in our line of sight to the plate. Needless to say, we just moved to one of all the empty seats near us. Later on, the game went extra innings, we snuck down to the lower level (when there were only 400 people in the stadium, and 390 were Phillies fans.). Well, at RFK, the press box level was accessed via a catwalk that went over the crowd, and we got to see Scott Graham run for a bathroom break after the 11th inning. We yelled, he waved, and ran doing the pee-pee dance. Then, Jimmy hit a triple to lead off I think the 13th inning or so, and finally scored, allowing the Phils to win the game.
The next year was fun too, when the Phils looked dead until Werth hit one of the longest homers I’ve ever seen into the upper deck. It helped to spark a come back, that was made better when I got in my car to drive home and listened through static to hear the Marlins score in the bottom of the night in Miami to win the game, and give the Mets the loss.
Also, some kid spelled “cunt” with the seats in the top section at a game once.
So the Phils have gotten some new fans since they’ve been winning division titles. The more the merrier, if you ask me. Get off your high horse, peoples.
Oh, I like having more people into the team I love, it’s not that. It’s just the inability to get into those games now. The Phils have loyalty for their team and all their front office staff, it’s just a shame it doesn’t translate as much to the fans. They do a whole lot more than the Eagles ever would, and that’s another reason why I like the team so much.
Oh, and Gonzo, your picture is of a guy my girlfriend’s dad golfs with from time to time.
Watrick does he do that awesome fist pump after every birdie too?
Holy shit, you know that guy? That pic was from an Astros game last year. There was video on here the next day. I love him.
Yeah, I know, my girlfriend told me a couple days after the fact, and I don’t know if I mentioned it on here or not. I haven’t met him, but I her dad gave me a set of clubs a couple years back, and I’m thinking about picking up the game just to go out with him, wear an ugly green sweater, and act like that for every good shot anyone gets.
I remember the scene clearly. They were showing a lil kid in the stands clapping, then this guy stood up in front of the kid and did the fist pump.
OK i’m a bit mistaken. There was no video. But here is a screengrab.
http://www.thefightins.com/tug-haines/one-is-also-how-many-times-we-beat-the-astros-in-2009/
You know Fist Pump Guy!????????? Second only to the David Wright Great Gazoo posts, the Fist Pump Guy thread was hilarious! “Who is that guy? You. Me. Us All.” They were talking about making tee-shirts.
OK, so in a bored moment, I decided to email the Phils and ask them to pass the question of “WHat was Tom googling?” on to T-Mac. He actually got back to me.
“Hey Rob, thanks for the email. I was googling baseball players who were born in Ireland. 1908 was the last according to google. Never did get to it on the air. Talk to you soon. Tom”
What a gent!
thats awesome that might kinda prove that phillies organization isnt turning in to the rockafellers or atleats our announcers have souls but the demographic of the fans has certainly changed in the past few year i mean im 19 and ive seen the change like my friends who go down to cbp drink in one of the lots down there and dont even listen to the game so i totally understand the bros thing but were not like the dodgers or yankees where the crowd is full of billy crystals and kate hudsons its just people that like to drink beer and watch baseball sometimes its more the former than the latter and thats the gay paradigm shift i think some people are referencing
(large sentence fragment^)
Woa. I didn’t know TMac could read…
Awesome stuff, Rhymeface. Thanks for sharing.
no tyler walker headband promotion?
@ Joe – Comment 25
I remember pitching with Pat Combs he was awesome…I tried to teach him my knucklecurve
“1908 was the last according to google.”
Silly T-Mac. 1918 was the last according to Baseball Reference.
http://www.baseball-reference.com/bio/Ireland_born.shtml
I wonder if Wheels was answering T-Mac’s email at that time….
oh my god dude that hat is sooo sex, doubt my dad would like it though… tahha
WATRIIIICK
that was one of my favorite sports memories of my life.. and im talkin, 2004 NFC championship game, 2008 WS, game 6 of the Eastern Finals, and THAT. the group of phillies fans that snuck down to be with the other 20 something phillies fans was nuts. Additionally, i think it was the 16th inning and we were roudy for each and every extra inning. Alfonzo Soriano gave us the finger twice because we were chanting “0 for seee-veeen.” When Jimmy hit the triple to put us ahead the lower level 3rd baseline went bananas. Most of us stayed after (madson?) saved the game in the bottom of the 16th. Security guards had to remind us 4 times to leave the stadium becuase we wouldn’t go, just wanted to stay and cheer. People back home said they wouldn’t stop showing our section on tv.
I sound like a 6 year old reliving christmas morning, but im so glad i’ve found someone who shares the same memory other than the people I went with. Now its a yearly tradition.. but nothing will ever beat RFK
gonzo, i killed my horse now i just want to beat it
So who’s all going to DC on the 5th? Green Legion has a trip of 1400 already.
I still love going to games at CBP. I just ignore the idiots. My family used to have a ticket plan back in 90-95, then I went to college and didn’t move back to the philly area until sept. of 2007. One of the first things I did then was call to reserve 2008 season ticket plan – no one was stopping me from going to the 1st phillies playoff games since 1993!! haha. I’m so glad we got them then, because it’s nice to not have to think about the stress of trying to get tickets to games post WFC.
I have always lucked out with the lottery stuff – I was able to get opening day tickets the past two years, extra playoff games in 08 (not in 09 though), etc… I got one of the boston games and the Chooch bobblehead night game this year as well no problem. Got Opening opening day tickets for DC and now I am waiting for my work to open up the sign up sheet for the company tickets – May 18 is the target date, as I reallllly want the Halladay bobblehead too….
I agree with everyone who is suggesting to take road trips to see the games – such a good time. We tend to take our summer travels to visit friends and relatives based on where the phills are playing (and on our quest to visit as many ballparks as we can) – possibilities this year include Chicago weekend, Pittsburgh weekend, San Diego/LA weekend, Marlins weekend… So glad we have friends/family pretty much all over the country to stay with ha ha.
These are some of the longest comments in the history of The Fightins. I could write a book just using these comments alone.
If we are talking road trips and we win the 2010 series, I highly recommend going to the Hall for Champions weekend. I went with my family after we won in 2008. The tours are geared for Phillies and the entire history of baseball in Philadelphia. It culminated at the trophy. Barkann was there when we were – just on the tour like everyone else. Phillies took over Cooperstown. It was great.
There IS video of me guys! Here is my awesome phist pumping in all of it’s glory:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eb8-HcfcIWw
:42 second mark
not to dwell on an obscure moment. the game tony barron made “the catch”, july 31, 1997 was won by the phils in the 10th inning over the cardinals. on an RBI single by midre cummings. same day the cardinals acquired mark mcgwire.
way to win one lesser known phils!
TC, if you did not have to look up that information, I award you 10 Man Points.
JT, i’ll be there too.
I’m doing a road trip to St. Louis in July. I hope to see a ton of So Taguchi jerseys.
maria they might remind you every 10 minutes that they’re the baseball capital of the world. congradulating themselves is their thing.
will.H, I think you meant capitol: http://www.thefightins.com/meechone/welcome-to-the-baseball-capitol-of-the-world-you-moran/
