Unless I’m enjoying a few beverages at a local bar on a random Saturday afternoon, I rarely bore myself by watching the Fighting Irish stumble around the football field for three hours while everyone pretends they’re still relevant to college football. That being said, I kind of wish I would’ve been tuning in a couple weeks ago when they faced the ‘Cuse in South Bend.
Prior to kickoff, some NBC Sports broad interviewed the Phillies very own Curt Henning about his extraordinary season where he went “41 and 0 in save opportunities.” (the NBC broad’s words — not mine) It was a rather informative interview where Brad gabbed about winning the World Series, his disappointing start to the season when he opened on the DL because of a meniscus tear, and his time as a standout closer for Notre Dame’s baseball squad. And although Lidge left school after his junior year, he revealed that he’s been taking internet classes so he could earn his degree.
Seems like a giant waste of time to me, but I guess it’s an admirable accomplishment.
Either way, here’s the video:
Brad was honored at halftime, as well.
After that — it was all downhill for the Irish. They blew a big lead when ex-NBA scoring champ Adrian Dantley’s son, Cameron, led the Orange back from a 23-10 4th quarter deficit and eventually threw the game winning TD with just :42 seconds left.
Which, according to my football-to-baseball conversion chart, is the equivilent of blowing a save against the Pirates.

not sure what I’m missing with the curt henning thing….
He was the old school ‘rassler Mr. Perfect, dawg! (Lidge was perfect on the season)
I thought if anyone didn’t get it, it was easily Googlable. I apologize for any confusion.
I googled it!

Shame on you.

@ Meech: +1 for the Mr. Perfect Reference
Sadly, I knew Lidge being perfect was too good to be true, and today I was proven correct. Lidge is a golden domer and that can never be erased. I’m sorry but it’s now: (41 for 41 ***)
