Harry Kalas Is Honored After Clinching The NL East
Posted by at 11:17 pm ET 35 Comments

In the most touching tribute of the night, the Phillies all marched out to left field after clinching their 3rd straight NL East title to huddle around the Harry Kalas billboard, pay their respects, and douse it with champagne and beer.

An extremely classy move by the Fightins.

Watch it for yourself, after the jump.

UPDATE: Fresh off the Twitter, thanks to @ToddZolecki:

THAT is freaking awesome.

My seats are right in centerfield. Truly, the greatest moment of this season was watching this team run towards HK.

And now that I’m home, watching the end of the game I really believe, why can’t we do this again?

  • Bob

The Angels did the same thing to Nick Adenhart. I love when teams do this, very classy

  • Matt

I’d love to see the Phils and Angels in the Fall Classic. Two classy teams, two good stories. Gotta love that in all the excitement and celebration, they still remembered Harry the K. I didn’t think I could like this team any more, but I guess I was wrong. Stay classy, Philadelphia (Phillies.)

Damn it feels good to be a Phillies fan.

  • Watrick

Watching the Angels from afar putting beer on that jersey left a bad taste in my mouth. But, I do have to admit, seeing the team do this with the HK sign, made me understand the personal touch to the Angels celebration. Very moving. I was wrong to dis that team with their celebration. Seeing Werth with the cigar in his mouth and that bottle of champagne gave me a bump in my throat.

I’ll be there tonight-let’s go get home field advantage!

  • Dutch Daulton’s Brain

    some classy shit

  • StacyH

Watrick, I agree. But the difference for me is that Nick Adenhart was killed by a drunk driver. So the image of pouring beer and champagne all over his jersey seemed a little ironic in a bad way. But I get that it’s tradition, and it means a lot that they are including Adenhart and Harry in the celebration. To see Jimmy wearing Harry’s shoes and jacket would be awesome. Can’t wait to see the Phillies do it again in 09!!

  • illafifth

I definitely teared up when they started heading across the field to touch the sign… does anyone know the song that was playing when that happened?

Oh, and Jimmy rocking HK’s shit needs to happen.

Great stuff. Congrats to the Phillies. Everything about last night was just right, from bringing in Lidge to honoring Kalas.

  • James Fayleez

McCarthy’s “HK” crap sounds so forced.

It’s either “Harry” or “Harry Kalas.”

And to be honest, it took me a couple minutes to figure out why people were upset about the Angels tribute to their teammate. I had to sit there and go, “….pouring beer on his jersey…WTF…..ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…the drunk driver thing.”

then I was like – F it. They loved the guy. They can honor him anyway they like.

  • Heathcliff Slocumb

Switch to radio, Fayleez. Franzke trumps the hell outta T-Bags — and his Harry references are so natural. It’s pretty awesome.

Bring it home for Harry, boys!

  • http://www.4daysrest.com 4daysrest.com

    That’s fucking awesome.

  • James Fayleez

I am torn between my desire to hear a good commentary on the game and my love of hi-defintion television.

Crystal clear picture with the sound turned low 1-3 and 7-9 has been winning so far.

  • Fink

Tmac sucks. Bring back Harry’s good friend Scott Graham.

  • Kyle

So classy. Love this team. Love HK.
