Ben Zobrist’s Dad Sure Likes To Complain

Tom Zobrist: ComplainerPart-time Rays utility man Ben Zobrist brought his family along with him to Philadelphia to enjoy the tourist attractions and witness their proud son play in his first World Series. After experiencing some unruly fans on Saturday night, Ben’s father, Tom Zobrist, couldn’t wait to tell people of his horrible experience. He recounts the atrocity with Phil Anastasia of the Inquirer and accuses the Citizens Bank faithful of harassing a baby!

Here are some highlights:

“These people harassed a baby,” [Ed. Note - told you!] Zobrist, the father of Tampa Bay outfielder Ben Zobrist, said before the start of Game 5 last night. “It’s not all of them. But there are a small group that are obnoxious, vulgar and rude.

“We’ve got kids with us, including a baby, and they should not be exposed to that. I worry about their safety.”

Ummmm, here’s a thought, Tom — how about leaving the baby at home?

“She looks real threatening, doesn’t she?” Zobrist said as his daughter lifted the baby into her arms.

Alright. We get it. Put the friggin kid down already, you’re making a fool of yourself.

I’m sure people were just screaming in the general direction of the baby, Tom. These seem like outrageous claims.

“They’re yelling at a baby,” Zobrist said. “It’s not all of them. We met some nice people.”

Well there you go, look at the positives. Some people were nice, talk about them.

“But there are some groups, they are relentless. They use foul language. They are threatening. They scream and yell obscenities at us, and all because we’re wearing Tampa stuff. It’s ridiculous.”

Okay, so don’t wear Tampa stuff. Problem solved. Oh yeah, and leave the kid at home.

Tom Zobrist said some family members of Tampa Bay players declined to attend Game 5 last night, preferring to remain at their hotels and watch the game on television, or leave town.

hahahahhaha, they got kicked out of their hotels, Tom. Anything else?

“We’ve been to the South Side of Chicago. It was nothing like this. We’ve been to Boston. We’ve been to Yankee Stadium. This place is way ahead of Yankee Stadium.”

So…. we win! You just made our day, Tom. Thanks.

    Is anyone else not buying any of this crap they are claiming? I have seen some sick shit at Philadelphia sporting events, but I find it hard to believe that anyone threw mustard packs at Joe Maddon’s granddaughter, or poured beer on a 9 year old, or did anything scary enough to warrant anyone locking themselves in a bathroom stall…. ok well I can believe that last one since most TB fans/family members are probably gigantic pussies.

    First of all Tom, congrats on your son looking like an ugly version of Doug Funny. Secondly, I highly doubt the so called ‘baby’ is going to wake up in 20 year and say ‘Man, those phillies fans were so mean to me back in 2008 when i was 6 months old’ Typically babies don’t take offense to things like that. It was most likely asking its 6 month old self “Self, why am i out here in 35 degree frozen rain’?’ That is Palinesque. Last, I’m assuming Father of Ben “Dynus” Zobrist had a decent seat and i don’t really think the people who were sitting around him who paid 1000+ plus were really worried most about harassing this baby, Ya know some of our fans might actually have been there to root on the Phillies in hopes of seeing the first world championship in 28 years…just a thought.

AS A PHILLY FAN OUR REPUTATION AROUND THE COUNTRY IS ALMOST A BADGE OF HONOR OF SORTS .EVERY TIME A NATIONAL GAME IS BROADCAST THEY ALWAYS REMIND US ABOUT BOOING SANTA ,BOOING MCNAAB ETC..IT MAKES ME SICK. THEY NEVER HAVE ANYTHING POISITIVE TO SAY.WHAT ABOUT OUR PASSION ,OUR PRIDE OUR KNOWLEDGE OF THE GAME.THE BANK IS ROCKING IN THESE PLAYOFFS AND IT MAKES ME PROUD TO SAY I AM A PHILLY SPORTS FAN!!!GO PHILS!!!!
